The University of Washington Libraries and the Ethnic Heritage Council have partnered since 2016 to bring We Are History Keepers workshops to communities around the Puget Sound.

The We Are History Keepers workshops are a unifying and empowering force in a community, creating connections within and between communities. Regardless of the diverse origins of the workshop participants, they all have one indisputable reality in common: they have all settled in the Pacific Northwest and are shaping and being shaped by the environment. They are making history in their very daily lives through their work and other activities that become the history of a location. Guiding community members to organize and preserve the documents, photos and recordings of the facts of their experience fortifies the pride in their uniqueness while becoming a concrete record that becomes part of Northwest history, no longer a missing piece.
